Building Permit Technician

WE ARE HIRING! Join our team and become our new Building Permit Technician, responsible for providing customer service and technical support for building permits, plan reviews, and code information within the Community Development Department.

Some info about the position…

• Receives, reviews, and processes building permit applications and construction documents
• Issues basic permits (e.g. water heater, fence, shed, re-roof, minor remodels) and Certificates of Occupancy
• Calculates and collects fees, prepares refunds, and performs cashiering functions
• Tracks permit status and prepares reports for staff, officials, and outside agencies
• Maintains contractor registrations, licenses, and permit data in department systems
• Provides accurate code/permit information to residents, contractors, and design professionals
• Processes requisitions, check requests, and purchase orders in accordance with established policies.

Qualified candidates should…

• Have a high school diploma or equivalent. College-level coursework in building construction, technology, or related field is preferred
• Hold ICC Permit Technician certification or obtain within 6 months of hire
• Have at least one year of experience in building permit review or a related public service environment
• Possess general knowledge of the building permit process and ability to read blueprints and construction documents
• Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office
• Have experience with permit software; Tyler/Energov experience is preferred
• Communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing
• Be able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment subject to frequent interruptions

• Full salary range is $63,460.04 - $83,017.69 per year (salary will be determined in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement)
